This Week’s Tri-W Sports Highlights

With regular season play entering its final few weeks, games in the Tri-W area have taken on an air of added intensity. Playoff implications are bringing out the best in Southern Carolina 3A competition as teams battle for a chance to compete in postseason play. Here are some of the major wins from this week in the Tri-W area.

Marvin Ridge



The varsity football team at Marvin Ridge has improved their record to 5-3 on the year with a 42-13 win over Cuthbertson in Friday’s conference matchup. The Mavericks continue to add to their impressive list of volleyball victories as well with a 3-1 win at Charlotte Catholic, and a 3-0 win at Sun Valley. They are 25-3 on the year so far. The Men’s soccer team picked up a 3-0 win at Cuthbertson this week, advancing to 11-3-1 on the season.

Parkwood

The Parkwood varsity volleyball team is 6-15 on the year after a three set shutout against Monroe on Thursday. The Men’s soccer team is 10-6-1 after two wins in shootouts against Sun Valley this week. Both matches were 3-3 at the end of regulation.

Sun Valley

Sun Valley’s varsity volleyball team won 3-0 against Piedmont at home on Thursday, advancing their overall record to 22-3. The Spartans currently hold second place in the Southern Carolina 3A standings with a conference record of 11-3.

Cuthbertson

The Cavaliers have advanced their varsity volleyball record to 12-11 on the season with two home-court conference wins. Cuthbertson earned a 3-0 win over Parkwood, and a 3-1 win over Charlotte Catholic.

Weddington

The Weddington varsity football team defeated Parkwood on Friday 45-3 to remain undefeated at 8-0. Men’s soccer at Weddington is 6-8-2 after picking up two conference wins at home this week. The Warriors won 9-2 over Monroe on Monday, and followed up with a 7-0 shutout over Piedmont to close out the week.
