On April 28th, the Timeless Jazz Charity Concert will turn the campus of Elevation Blakeney into a showcase for local nonprofits. A concert will be performed by the Charlotte Jazz Band, and appetizers will be served by local nonprofit caterers.

Doors will open for the event at 6:00 pm, so that guests can enjoy the hors d’oeuvres. The concert will run from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, including intermissions. Tickets are $45, plus fees, and are available through Eventbrite.

Printed tickets must be brought to the event, although there is no age minimum or formal identification required to attend. Parking is free in the large Elevation Blakeney lot. There are no restrictions as to what you can bring into the event, but all eating or drinking must take place outside of the auditorium.

All of the nonprofit organizations involved will be both contributing to the event and benefiting from the ticket sales, which is part of the unique design to raise awareness. Community members will be interacting with the nonprofits that they are supporting that evening.

Who Benefits?
The Charlotte Jazz band is affiliated with the Charlotte Concert Band, a 501(c)3 nonprofit community organization. They are dedicated to bringing quality music to the community and will be displaying their talent as the featured entertainment for the night. According to the Charlotte Concert Band website, “The Charlotte Jazz Band is dedicated to the quality performance of big band jazz music, including swing, Dixieland, ragtime, and bebop, and other styles.”

The King’s Kitchen, Community Culinary School, and Friendship Trays will be providing heavy appetizers. These nonprofit organizations are dedicated to either feeding the hungry or providing culinary training to give participants in their program employable skills. They are also partners with SHARE Charlotte, a local organization that connects Charlotte-area volunteers and donors with quality non-profit organizations.

A Personal Vision
Event organizer Wai Yau has been living in the Charlotte area for 16 years. Wai said, “I love the community and want to give back to the community.” To do that, she decided to take on a personal goal of helping raise awareness of local nonprofits.

Realizing that “big-name” nonprofits often receive the spotlight, Wai decided to boost visibility for local nonprofits by planning a charity event that allows people to see the nonprofits in action. She wanted an interactive event that displayed the talents and services the nonprofits provide. The Timeless Jazz Charity Concert is her first planned event, but she hopes to continue the project by organizing more events in the future.

Tickets can be purchased by going to www.eventbrite.com and entering, “Timeless – A Charity Jazz Concert” in the search bar. There is also an option to make an extra donation, or to donate without purchasing a ticket, for those who are not able to attend the event.

The Elevation Blakeney venue is located at 8835 Blakeney Professional Dr, Charlotte, NC 28277. If there are any questions about the event, Wai can also be contacted through the Eventbrite page.
