WAXHAW, NC – On Monday, March 7, Mayor of Waxhaw Ron Pappas held a forum at Five Stones Church in Waxhaw. This forum was a hybrid event with a live broadcast to Facebook as well as in person at the church. Mayor Pappas first spoke about the current state of Waxhaw before moving into future plans. He then took questions from the in-person and virtual crowd. Waxhaw Commissioners Pedro Morey, Jason Hall, and Anne Simpson were also in attendance along with several members of the Town Hall’s staff. Haven Creative assisted with the online and social media aspects of the event.

Pappas started the evening thanking Five Stones Church for the use of the facility, thanking his co-workers at Town Hall, and those in attendance. He then went on to talk about Waxhaw’s current state. They have a strategic growth plan in place, and ground has been broken on a new park in downtown Waxhaw. Currently, the project is in a clearing and grading phase with an eye to open next year. The incredible improvements to the sidewalks, bridge steps, and crossing light downtown have greatly improved pedestrian safety. There is a new Town Hall campus being built, and they hope to complete that by the end of 2023. Since the current town staff is very spread out among leased buildings, the new campus will allow them all to work together as well as provide additional space for town business. East North Main Street has a big upgrade coming that will improve traffic flow and parking. They are also working to install electric vehicle chargers downtown to encourage electric vehicle adoption.

“Growth is inevitable, and when you don’t plan, you get the unexpected,” Pappas shared. That is why he and the commissioners are working so hard to get a solid plan in place. “We are moving towards a unified jigsaw puzzle!”
