Town Of Waxhaw Names Police Chief

Interim Police Chief Gregg Collins is officially named as Town of Waxhaw Police Chief.

WAXHAW, NC – Town Manager Jeff Wells has announced that Interim Police Chief, Gregg Collins will officially join the Waxhaw Police Department as the Police Chief. Collins was named the Interim Police Chief in September. Collins also formerly served as Police Captain with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Town Manager Jeff Wells said, “Collins brings nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience to the table. His collaborative approach and the leadership skills he has demonstrated over the past few months give me confidence that he will be a great Police Chief for our community.”



In his role as Interim Chief, Collins established the Chief’s Award for Excellence to recognize officers that have gone above and beyond the call of duty. The award is presented to an officer that has visibly upheld the ideals and core values of the Town of Waxhaw, the Waxhaw Police Department, and the profession of law enforcement. Collins will continue to provide leadership over daily operational strategies and maintain continuity of all police services throughout the community.

“I’ve enjoyed my first few months serving the Town of Waxhaw and look forward to the opportunity to continue to lead this great department of dedicated men and women,” said Collins. “The Waxhaw Police Department will continue to provide the very best service to our community that they all deserve and are accustomed to receiving.”

Collins began his career in law enforcement as an officer with the City of Kinston, NC in 1992. By 1995 he had moved into an officer position in the Town of Garner, and in 2000 was sworn in at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. He worked his way up to Sergeant in the Freedom Division, then Police Response Area Commander, eventually being promoted to Captain where he loyally served in various Divisions within the CMPD including the Airport Division and Operations Command, among others.
