
WAXHAW, NC – With the conference basketball tournament just around the corner, Tri-W teams are working hard to earn their place in the postseason. Seeding for the state tournament will occur on Feb. 19, with the first round slated to begin on Feb. 22. Here is a look at the last week in basketball, and the matchups that are on the way for your teams.
Weddington men’s basketball continues to dominate the Southern Carolina 4A Conference with an undefeated record. The Warriors are 6-0 in conference play and 19-0 overall. Weddington’s most recent victory came by way of an 86-40 blowout over Piedmont, placing the Panthers at 1-6 in conference play.
Chase Lowe, Weddington’s all-time leading scorer, led the Warriors to victory with 16 points against the Panthers. Lowe led on the boards as well with six rebounds. He earned six assists, three steals, and five deflections on the night. Senior shooting guard AJ Cook earned 15 points on the night with four assists. Junior shooting guard Evan Morton led the team with four steals. He earned nine points and five rebounds on the night. Weddington is scheduled to travel to Cuthbertson and Porter Ridge this week for conference matchups.

Weddington’s women’s team has advanced to 2-4 in conference play following a 33-27 win over Piedmont. They currently hold fifth place in the Southern Carolina 4A Conference. They will continue conference play against Cuthbertson and Porter Ridge this week.
Parkwood’s women’s team holds first place in the Rocky River 3A Conference. The team is 15-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The Wolf Pack continues on to a five-game win streak with a 52-49 victory over Forest Hills. The team will continue conference play with games this week against Monroe, West Stanly, and Anson.
Third place in the 4A men’s conference belongs to Marvin Ridge, just behind Porter Ridge. The Mavericks are on a three-win streak following conference victories this week over Cuthbertson, Piedmont, and Sun Valley. This string of victories brings the Mavericks to 7-12 on the year. They are 3-3 in conference play.
The Marvin Ridge women’s team currently holds first place with a conference record of 6-0. The Mavericks are 15-4 on the year. The team is on an eight-game win streak following a 76-45 win over the Sun Valley Spartans. They hope to continue that streak this week against Porter Ridge, Hickory Ridge, and Piedmont.
Second place in the women’s 4A conference belongs to Cuthbertson at 4-2. The Cavaliers are 13-6 overall. The team’s most recent win was a 52-15 contest at Porter Ridge, led by senior forward Ruby Williams, who earned 26 points in the game. Williams racked up four rebounds, four steals, and three assists.

The Cuthbertson men’s team came up short at Porter Ridge, losing by a score of 67-59. The Cavaliers are currently in fourth place in conference standings with an overall record of 10-8 and a conference record of 2-4. They are set to continue conference play this week with games against Weddington and Sun Valley.
