Tri-W Sports Highlights: Conference Tournament Tennis is Just Around the Corner

WAXHAW, NC – Tri-W tennis teams are fighting hard for a favorable seeding position, with the Southern Carolina 4A Conference Tournament just around the corner. One Tri-W team is dominating the conference, undefeated in the SCC, while another hopes to earn their first conference win before the season is out. Read on for a look at tennis standings, and what to expect in the final days of regular season play. 

Marvin Ridge tops the SCC 4A with an undefeated conference record of 8-0. They are 10-2 on the year. The most recent win for the Mavericks was an 8-1 victory over Weddington. Junior Maverick, Tyler Komito, earned player of the match honors for his two 6-0 sets against Weddington’s Sithu Sharma. Komito brought home another win as part of a doubles team featuring sophomore Jack Poelke. The pair won 8-4 over Weddington’s Mcneill Jordan and Charlie Stevens. The Mavericks will host Lake Norman this week, followed by a double header at Sun Valley. 



Weddington currently holds the second place position in the SCC 4A with a conference record of 6-2. They are 7-4 overall. Weddington’s match at Marvin Ridge celebrated their senior night, despite moving to play at Marvin Ridge instead of their home court. Weddington’s senior tennis players include Sithu Sharma, Tharun Jaiganesh, Aditya Suresh, and Aaditya Jampani. The Warriors will travel to Cuthbertson on Monday for their final match prior to the conference tournament.

Cuthbertson tennis comes in at 4-4 for conference play, with an overall record of 4-6. Their most recent match was at home against Piedmont, resulting in a 7-2 victory for the Cavaliers. They will host Weddington for the final regular season match of the year prior to the SCC 4A tournament. Sun Valley is at the bottom of the SCC 4A standings with a conference record of 0-6. The Spartans are 4-8 overall on the season. They will host a double-header against Marvin Ridge leading into the conference tournament.

Parkwood tennis is 2-6 in conference play with an overall record of 2-9. The Wolf Pack currently holds fifth place in the Rocky River 3A Conference, behind Anson, CATA, Forest Hills, and Monroe. Following losses at CATA and Monroe, Parkwood will host South Stanly for their last regular season match of the year.
