WAXHAW, NC – Weddington continues to dominate the Southern Carolina 4A men’s conference as the regular season enters its final week. With only two games left to play in the final week, Tri-W teams are putting their best foot forward in attempts to secure their place in the postseason tournament. 

At 21-0, and 8-0 in conference play, the Weddington men’s team is looking forward to a postseason appearance and a favorable seeding position. The Warriors improved their record this week with a nail-biter victory over the Porter Ridge Pirates. Despite a first-half Pirate lead, the Warriors took home the victory 58-56 with a 19-point fourth quarter rally. 



Leading the Weddington scoring effort was junior shooting guard Evan Morton with 18 points. Morton earned three rebounds and three assists on the night as well. Senior shooting guard AJ Cook led the defensive effort with five steals. Kyle Frazier, Weddington’s senior small forward, racked up 17 points on the night with eight rebounds and five assists. The Warriors currently average 71 points per game, accumulating a total of 1492 on the year. Weddington’s final games of the season will be against the Marvin Ridge Mavericks in away and home matchups on Wednesday and Friday of this week. 

Sun Valley sits in third place in the conference, just behind Porter Ridge, with an overall record of 14-8. The Spartans are 3-5 in conference play. The team continues on to a two-win streak, following a 49-39 win over the Cuthbertson Cavaliers on Friday. This game brings the Cavaliers to 10-10 on the year. They are 2-6 in the conference. Cuthbertson will host Sun Valley and the Piedmont Panthers for their final regular season games.

Sophomore point guard Tyree White led the Spartans to victory in Friday’s game with 18 points, five steals and two assists. Junior forward Daniel Valentine made significant contributions to the Sun Valley victory with 13 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Junior guard Will Brown made major contributions as well, racking up four steals, three assists, and three rebounds. The Spartans currently hold an average of 56 points per game, bringing in a total of 1233 for the year. Sun Valley will play their last two conference games this week in an away rematch against Cuthbertson and a home game on Friday against the second place Porter Ridge Pirates.

Marvin Ridge continues to face hard luck in late conference play, suffering a three-loss streak. They are 7-15 on the year with a conference record of 3-5. The team’s most recent game ended in a 56-32 loss to the Piedmont Panthers. The Mavericks have scored a total of 1032 points this year, allowing for 1222. Marvin Ridge will finish off the regular season with two games against Weddington. 

Parkwood improved their record to 10-13 with a 67-60 win over the Anson Wildcats on Friday. The Wolf Pack currently holds third place in the Rocky River 3A men’s conference with a conference record of 5-4. Their final game of the regular season will be an away game against the Central Academy Cougars this Friday.
