
WAXHAW, NC – Playoff season is underway for spring sports in the Tri-W area. In lacrosse, schools are entering their third round of tournament play. Golf teams will begin round one of the state championship May 9. Tri-W softball and baseball teams will compete in the playoffs beginning May 10. Track and field will have regionals May 13-14 with the state tournament commencing May 21. The first round of women’s soccer will begin May 16. Their state championship will be played June 3-4. With a canceled 4A conference championship, most Tri-W baseball teams will enter the postseason based on regular season stats. Two of the top three teams in the Southern Carolina 4A Conference are from the Tri-W area, including Sun Valley at the top spot, finishing with a conference record of 12-3. Marvin Ridge holds third, behind Porter Ridge, with a conference record of 9-6. First and second place will be guaranteed playoff positions, with possible wildcard spots for teams down the list based on the NCHSAA’s rating percentage index formula.Â

Marvin Ridge lacrosse is scheduled to play one-seed Hough in the third round of the state tournament May 10. The Mavericks defeated Cuthbertson in round two by a 10-7 margin. Weddington is scheduled to play seven-seed Lake Norman this week, for the third round, after defeating Northwest Guilford 10-5.
Men’s dual team tennis will play their third and regional rounds this week. Marvin Ridge will play six-seed Page Pirates for their third-round appearance. Individual men’s tennis has wrapped their state tournament, with Brayden Hakerem and Alex Higgins out of Leesville Road as the doubles draw individual state champions. This pair eliminated the last Tri-W duo of the tournament, Rish Reddy & Harrison P. Williams of Marvin Ridge, in the second round of the individual state championship doubles draw tournament.Â
Marvin Ridge holds the conference championship title for SCC 4A softball. They defeated Piedmont 4-3 to earn the conference win. They hope to continue their nine-win streak in round one of the state tournament May 10. Parkwood holds third place in the Rocky River 3A Conference, hoping for an RPI rating high enough to enter the postseason tournament as a wildcard.
