WAXHAW, NC – Baseball season is moving fast with just under a month left of regular season play. As Tri-W teams battle for the top spots in their conferences, some surprising turns have occurred with shifts in standings almost daily. Here is a look at how those teams are performing and what you can expect as the baseball season continues on.

Parkwood tossing a tough pitch against Forest Hills

Weddington baseball is currently on a four-loss streak, with three of those losses coming by way of the Sun Valley Spartans last week. Weddington fell short in those games by scores of 5-3, 7-4, and 7-1. The Warriors’ last victory prior to this string of defeats was a home match up against Bethany out of Summerfield. Weddington won that game 8-4. Weddington will face Piedmont in three games this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. The Panthers are currently 1-6 on the year. The Warriors hold a record of 3-5. 



Sun Valley tops the Southern Carolina 4A Conference with an overall record of 7-1, with their only loss coming from a 3-2 game at Parkwood. Their current four-win streak includes victories over Weddington and the Butler Bulldogs. The Spartans will play three conference games this week against Marvin Ridge, followed by three games against Piedmont the following week. 

As the only Tri-W team outside of the SCC 4A, Parkwood holds third place in the Rocky River 3A Conference. The Wolf Pack, with an overall record of 6-3, stands just behind Anson and West Stanly. Parkwood began a three-win streak following an 8-2 loss over Porter Ridge on Saturday. Parkwood’s last three wins were blowouts against Forest hills, with scores of 5-0, 17-4, and 2-0. Parkwood will play three games against Central Academy this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, followed by three more against Monroe next week. 

Cuthberston Baseball is 2-4-1 on the year, earning their second victory of the season last week in a 9-4 game over Marvin Ridge. This was the final game in a three-game series against the Mavericks that saw Cuthbertson fall 4-0 and 4-1 in the first two games. The Cavaliers will play another three-game series on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday against Porter Ridge, followed by a three-game series against Weddington. 

Third place in the SCC 4A belongs to Marvin Ridge with a record of 6-3. Last week’s three-game series against Cuthbertson featured a strong start for the Mavericks, winning 4-0 and 4-1 in the first two games. The Mavericks fell in the final game by a score of 4-9. Marvin Ridge will continue conference play this week against the front-runner Sun Valley Spartans, followed by a series against Porter Ridge next week.
