
MONROE, NC – April 5, 2022 – Union Academy is pleased to announce the hiring of Ginger Lusty as Chief Financial Officer to replace LynnKroeger, longtime CFO who is well-known as a trusted charter school leader throughout Union County and across the state. Ginger brings with her a wealth of experience in working with charter schools in three states, including North Carolina, as well as extensive knowledge of finance, operations, and human resources from her background in the healthcare industry.
Supported in the process by a well-respected national search firm that specializes in CFO searches for schools, UA received more than 150resumes during a three-month national search and interviewed more than two dozen candidates. Three excellent finalists came to campus for extensive visits with the search committee, staff, board members, and parents. Ginger was the unanimous choice at the end of a thorough and thoughtful process.“Ginger Lusty brings to UA an outstanding background and skills in school management and executive leadership. Her knowledge of charter school finance is extensive, and she impressed everyone she met during her two days in our community. I am confident Ginger will be a superb fit with the UA Family,” said Head of School John D. Marshall.
Ginger joins UA from University Charter School in Alabama whereas the CSFO was responsible for all financial operations and controls for the public charter school. In addition to the expected duties of a CFO, Ginger had oversight of federal programs, closed a multi-million dollar loan for a new facility, and worked with the Alabama Public Charter School Commission to develop a Charter School Framework for annual reports for all charter schools to use.
Prior to her time in Alabama, Ginger served as the CFO for Pine Lake Preparatory in Mooresville, NC one of the largest K-12 charter schools in NC. There she refinanced millions of dollars in Education Revenue Bonds and secured additional money through the Public FinanceAuthority for new buildings and facilities.
Additionally, Ginger worked as the state authorizer for The Colorado Charter School Institute which oversees 41 public charter schools and over 17,000 students. She has extensive knowledge as a financial consultant and grant writer securing millions of dollars for schools, in charter school renewals, and in-school accreditation.
Ginger has a Bachelor of Business Administration and Accounting from Memphis StateUniversity. She and her husband are the parents of two adult sons.

To ensure a smooth transition of senior leadership, Ginger will be on campus to work closely with Lynn over the course of several weeks beginning on April 25, 2022.
