Union Academy received a lighting rebate check in the amount of $20K from the City of Monroe Energy Services. Assistant Director of Monroe Economic Development Ron Mahle presented the rebate check to UA’s CFO Lynn Kroeger and other members of the administrative staff. 

The rebate check is a result of successful energy-saving initiatives Union Academy accomplished during the year. The School installed LED lighting in the newly constructed buildings and removed fluorescent light bulbs in its older buildings to complete a school-wide upgrade during recent improvements. With lighting accounting for the largest portion of the energy used by buildings, this project is both cost-saving and energy-saving.

“This was a team effort,” said CFO Lynn Kroeger. “I am extremely proud that we have taken these important steps to conserve energy and lessen our impact on the environment and save money for our school. This rebate check is evidence that we are doing our part, and it’s literally paying off.”

The Energy Efficient Lighting Rebate Program is offered by the City of Monroe Energy Services to its commercial, industrial, and institutional electric customers who choose to invest in energy-efficient lighting at their facilities. The program is sponsored by the NCMPA1 (North Carolina Municipal Power Agency #1), the organization from whom the City purchases its wholesale electricity. The program is administered by ElectriCities, a not-for-profit membership organization of municipally-owned electric utilities that are spread across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. ElectriCities advocates for public power communities at the state and federal levels, and provide a number of administrative, technical, legal, and legislative services to support our members.
