On August 15th, community members gathered with the Waxhaw Entrepreneurs (WE) to celebrate the years that the WE has been able to occupy the Nivens Price building, which was leased to them by the town of Waxhaw. The WE was able to form their roots in this space, and have now become a 501(c)6.

Mayor Stephen Maher was able to attend and was formally thanked in a speech by WE team member, Loyd Pennington, who founded the WE in 2012. Pennington also gave an overview of the incubations that are currently housed in the Nivens Price building.

During the event, the past, present, and future of the WE were discussed. It was announced that the WE would continue, but the organization’s future location is uncertain. Most of the current incubations are in talks to relocate their businesses within Union County due to lack of inventory in Waxhaw. However, opportunities will be available through the WE for them to still serve the Waxhaw Community in some capacity.

According to team leader Karen Johnson, “Community is the focus of the WE. It was a positive night. We want to give a great big ‘thank you’ to all who have participated in any way during the startup build years of WE.”

Anyone interested in getting involved with the WE can go to their website, waxhawentreprenures.com. Information will be updated in mid-September.
