Waxhaw Remembers at Memorial Day Ceremony

Waxhaw held their Memorial Day Celebration on May 29, 2017.  Navy Veteran William Houston Reule, Guest Speaker, said during his speech, “My reason for telling this part of our history is so that we will always remember those that lost their lives in the service of our country. As Americans, we strive to help others and be a beacon of hope for countries struggling to be free. We owe our freedom then and now to the brave men and women that sacrificed themselves so that we can enjoy our lives.  Each Memorial Day, we remember those that have passed and say a solemn thank you for all they did for America.”

Craig Horn, NC House of Representatives District 68, served in the Air Force from 62-69 and is presented a Quilt of Valor by Edna Marie Drakeford, of Waxhaw Quilts of Valor. She is also the owner of Marie’s Sewing and Quilting. The Waxhaw Quilt of Valor group meets in Created in the Carolina’s in downtown Waxhaw on Tuesday evenings and are currently accepting donations and new members.
James Little, Army Reserve, brought his family to the Memorial Day Celebration to teach them about what Memorial Day represents.
The flag is flown at half staff in remembrance of those who died while serving their country on Memorial Day.
Owners of Provisions Waxhaw, Lisa Vigil and Ken Posko, who is a Navy Veteran, brought their family downtown for the Waxhaw Memorial Day Celebration on May 29, 2017.
Evan Carroll, Waxhaw, and Ed, Sharon, & Nikhil Perego, Indian Land. The Perego’s came out so their grandson could learn what the veterans have given to America.
Pack 53 of Waxhaw came to say the Pledge of Allegiance during the ceremony. They also participate in Veterans Day Celebrations and the Independence Day and Christmas Parades.
Doris Gordon, with the Ladies Auxiliary Post 208 of Waxhaw, is passing out poppies and American Flag pins to remember our fallen service members. All donations go to support veteran service.

The American Legion Post 208 of Waxhaw is the Honor Guard for the Memorial Day Ceremony. They will do a three round volley and play taps during the ceremony.
Luis, Abigail, & Jacob, from Waxhaw, came down to see the Memorial Day event and have a nice day out together.
John and Marie Cangemi, of Monroe, have a son in the Air Force. “We come every year to honor the veterans. It’s a family tradition and we have several family member who have served. We want to show our respect.”
