The Union County Chamber of Commerce and local civic and business people attended a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Waxhaw Stop & Shop on Thursday, August 31.

The Waxhaw Stop & Shop is located near downtown Waxhaw at 201 N. Broome St. They are open seven days a week.

The Waxhaw Stop & Shop is a full-service convenience store with several gas pumps. The Stop & Shop offers a wide variety of soft drinks, coffee, snacks and other convenience items. They also sell beer and unfortified wine and they boast the “coldest beer cave in Waxhaw” that has a large variety of choices.

The popular Sugar Donuts is located in the store and is open Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. until noon. Sugar Donuts offers a wide variety of donuts and pastries.

The current location suffered a devastating fire in 2010 and was rebuilt in 2012.

“This business has really grown,” said owner Pam Hinson. “We are probably going to get the lottery down the road. We want to be a community store. We have a full kitchen here and Sugar Donuts is here on Saturday and Sunday. They are doing really well. We had an hour wait the first day that they opened. They are really helping the store.”

Waxhaw Mayor Stephen Maher was on hand for the ribbon cutting and he told the group that he is a regular customer.

“I come in here every day and they always have a smile on their face,” Maher told the group. “They really represent what Waxhaw is about and Waxhaw is about community. There is nothing that makes us stronger than the businesses that make up the downtown community.”
