WAXHAW, NC – On Wednesday, November 18, Tower 18 rolled into the Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Station to begin its tour of duty.  “The truck is our first aerial device and is a mid-mount 95′ Baker Aerialscope that was refurbished by Seagrave,” Waxhaw Fire Chief Gregory Sharpe explains.  “The truck is needed to reach the upper stories of our downtown buildings, Atrium Waxhaw, the Ardmore Apartments, and the townhomes on Hwy 75 at the American Legion Hall. It will also assist us in above- and below-grade rescue incidents.”

A memorial badge for Bill Kennelly, a firefighter who passed away in 2018, is displayed on the side of the new Tower 18.

Friends and family members of the firefighters were also on hand to greet the new addition.  The family members of Bill Kennelly were surprised and honored to find out that the department had included a memorial badge for him.  William Kennelly, his son, explained that his dad was on the committee for the new vehicle before he passed.  After his passing, the committee chose to recognize his accomplishments and dedication with the badge.

The Waxhaw VFD will be holding an Open House on December 12.  During this event, the Waxhaw VFD will perform an “in-service ceremony” for the new aerial and two new engines.  They will also be holding a recognition ceremony for the company members as well as announcing a new grant!  The event will start at 11:00 am at the Waxhaw Fire House, and there will be a hot dog cookout as well.

The Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department is located at 3500 Waxhaw Pkwy, Waxhaw, NC 28173; (704) 843-4001; http://waxhawvfd.org/
