On Saturday, October 27th, 2018, Waxhaw hosted their annual Fright Night downtown. Local businesses passed out candy to trick or treaters and participated in a decorating contest. This year’s winner was Provisions Waxhaw with a Zombie Prom theme. Lisa Hoffman, Event Planner for the Town of Waxhaw, explained that they reorganized the schedule of events for this year and received some great feedback about it. They are still trying to perfect the night and will re-evaluate for next year. “The haunted maze and the haunted carriage rides both went really well!” Events also included a showing of “Beetlejuice” under the water tower, live music, costume contests, and more. Many food and beer vendors were also downtown including: Dreamchaser’s Brewery beer tent, Unknown Brewing beer tent, Strudeltieg, Killer Q, Aloha Snow, Roman’s All Star, Paul’s Hot Dogs, Pelican’s Snowballs, and Lemon Shakers.
Maya and Riley, from Matthews and Weddington, came for the festival, candy, and ice cream! They posed with Waxhaw Creamery workers, Brianna Newman and Ryliegh Durham, so everyone could show off their face paintings.Angela Sutherland, Justin Bevilacqua, Cyrilla Purcell, from Waxhaw. “We live here in downtown Waxhaw so we’re always here [at Dreamchaser’s Brewery]. We’re lit up!”The Gaddy Family is from Waxhaw. “We come every year for candy, costumes and the brewery!”(LtR) Jacob and Lisa Ayenew, Elias, Mya, and Stella came down for the festival. They are all from Waxhaw and came to enjoy the spooktacular night.Ginger, Mary Anne, the Skipper, and Gilligan too! “We came for the Mary O’Neill’s party. We love Mary O’Neill’s because they support the South Charlotte Dog Rescue and we love the atmosphere.”Lynne Kennedy and Marsha Magasrevy are from Waxhaw and came down for Mary O’Neill’s Halloween Party. “We love Mary’s; it’s our home away from home!”Under the water tower, ghouls and goblins gathered on bales of hay to watch “Beetlejuice” showing on an inflatable screen.Allen Richardson and Tanya Plyler came from Monroe and Lancaster for Dreamchaser’s Brewery. Tanya came last year for Fright Night and she had a lot of fun so this year she brought Allen with her.
