WAXHAW, NC – According to history.com, Labor Day was created in the late 19th century to honor America’s workers.  It took place on the first Monday in September and became a federal holiday in 1894.  Many celebrate with family and friends during backyard barbecues or long weekends away on vacation.  In addition, there are plenty of local ways to celebrate while supporting those who continue to work on the national day off.
