Our pets are our family, and family is exactly what is at the center of Weddington Animal Hospital.
Opened in 1999, Weddington Animal Hospital has been a steadfast part of the Weddington area community for nearly two decades. Since the beginning, it’s considered itself a family practice in every way.
“We treat our clients like family, and we are a family here as well. We work as a team to provide the best care possible for our client’s pets,” says staff member Nikki Knight.
It’s no wonder that the idea of family and community is the heartbeat of the hospital, as Dr. Edward Faulkner, leading veterinarian at Weddington Animal Hospital, is a North Carolina native, and newly joined vet, Dr. Meg Walker, is from Weddington; returning home after obtaining her degree in Veterinary Medicine in May.
While it is the entire team at Weddington Animal Hospital that makes the clinic a special place, it’s the highly skilled and compassionate doctors who turn it into the best place for so many beloved pets.
Dr. Faulkner attended Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, followed by his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University, where he was president of his veterinary class. He took over the practice at Weddington in January of 2017. Dr. Faulkner is a distinguished practitioner, with an extensive career beyond the doors of Weddington Animal Hospital, including his active membership in the American Veterinary Medical Association, board participant with the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association, and member of the North Carolina Academy of Small Animal Medicine and American Association of Feline Practitioners. His specializations include soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, infectious diseases, as well as internal medicine.
In June, 2018, Weddington Animal Hospital brought Doctor Meg Walker on board. Doctor Walker holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Western Carolina University in 2014 and graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2018. According to the hospital, “she received her acupuncture certification through the Chi Institute in May 2018, even studying and traveling throughout China during veterinary school to immerse herself completely in acupuncture training.”
Dr. Walker grew up in Weddington, with her heart set on becoming a veterinarian since the age of three. She is excited to usher in her career here at home, having accomplished her childhood goal and returning to her roots.
Weddington Animal Hospital services the needs of both cats and dogs at their clinic, and is proud to offer some groundbreaking and cutting edge technology in their office. The practice is equipped to offer orthopedic surgery, preventive care, dental care, as well as sick and emergency visits to their clients. Additionally, they offer animal acupuncture; a lesser known and unconventional treatment available for pets.
Walker says Weddington Animal Hospital is striving to become a “fear free” certified hospital, which allows them to minimize patient stress and provide a positive experience for everyone.” She goes on to add, “We love to get to know our clients and their pets. We really enjoy what we do and try to make the experience of a vetinary visit as pleasant as possible for everyone involved. We feel that it is important to get to know not only the patients, but their owners as well. We are passionate about educating clients and serving our community.”
The hospital looks forward to many more years of serving Weddington and the surrounding areas in meeting their pet care needs.
