
The Weddington High School cheerleading team has earned first place in the Large Varsity D1 division at the 2019 NCHSAA Cheerleading Invitational in Raleigh. This season marks the first year of competition cheerleading that Weddington has participated in since they earned the same honor more than 10 years ago in 2009.
Weddington won this year’s competition with a score of 85.15 points. Cardinal Gibbons High School, who earned second place, finished with 83.6 points. Third place, Carson High School, finished with 67 points. Wake Forest, Wakefield and Conley High School came in fourth, fifth and sixth.
Winners in other divisions include: Lake Norman High School in Large Varsity D2, Carrituck High School in Large Varsity Non-Tumble D2, Topsail High School in Large Varsity Non-Tumble D1, Holly Springs High School in Super Varsity D1, Ledford High School in Super Varsity D2, Croatan High School in Medium Varsity D2, Northwest Guilford in Super Varsity Non-Tumble D1, Pisgah High School in Super Varsity Non-Tumble D2, Davie County in Medium Varsity D1, West Columbus High School in Medium Varsity Non-Tumble D2, Western Harnett High School in Medium Varsity Non-Tumble D1 and A. L. Brown in Varsity Coed.
