WAXHAW, NC – Waxhaw is full of history and truly wonderful stories. What better way to learn about the history than hearing a few stories and folklore from the town’s own? On Saturday, June 25, the Museum of the Waxhaws will be presenting Historic Waxhaw Stories and Folklore. It will be an evening full of local lore told from personal stories and historical research. Former Waxhaw Town Commissioner Joyce Blythe and Waxhaw Native Melvin Faris will be presenting.

The presentation will be a unique experience on its own. Blythe and Faris will be in true Southern style, sitting in white rocking chairs with glasses of sweet tea at their side. They will take you through a virtual walking tour of the town’s history and share wonderful stories of the past. Behind Joyce and Melvin will be a screen that will display pictures of the town and townspeople. It will be an interesting journey that will give you a world of knowledge of how the town has changed, the history of the local folks that have lived here over the years, and some special stories about famous people that you would have never guessed have a history in this little town. You will be amazed by the stories of how the town has grown leaps and bounds over the years, the special history of the days that have gone by and all the special people that have left their mark in this town. Be sure to join the folks that know it best, as they have grown up, raised families, and worked for the town of Waxhaw. You will be surprised with the details of what this town has seen and what events are such historical marks throughout.

“Melvin and I don’t claim to know all the history of the town, but what we do know, we love to share,” says Blythe. She loves to share her knowledge and even more importantly her experiences of growing up in such a lovely town. As she grew up here in town, some local landmarks were once her backyard. Ms. Blythe was a former Waxhaw Town Commissioner and has some fun and exciting stories to tell about all that she has seen.  From how the fire department was created to a story about Andrew Jackson’s family, she tells it in a way that will keep you listening. Waxhaw native Melvin Faris is an amazing folklore storyteller. It is his specialty, and he has an amazing wealth of knowledge along with his way of telling the tales that will keep you just as entertained.
