God’s Temple of Zion Church in Waxhaw is expanding! Located at 3820 New Town Road, this little church is about to get a lot bigger. A new youth education wing is expected to be completed by March 1st of this year. The new wing will house the youth church along with classrooms. In addition, planning is in the works for a new ministry complex which will include offices, a meeting space, two indoor basketball courts, a fitness center and a daycare. Although ground has not broken on this part of the expansion yet, it is expected to be between 40,000 and 50,000 square feet. They are hoping to begin later this year.

Pastor Thompson and his wife, Stephanie, are at the heart of God’s Temple of Zion. Married for 27 years with four children, they are family-oriented. They’ve both been involved in ministry for over 25 years and share the same goals for their church. With a total of 82 current members, the Thompsons know everyone individually. Pastor Thompson describes the environment of God’s Temple of Zion as diverse, traditional yet contemporary, and spiritual. He said they like to focus on the whole person: spiritually, physically, emotionally, and economically.
One of the goals of the ministry is to partner with different organizations to help adults and young people. At this time, they are planning a few summer camps for soccer and tennis that would be available to underprivileged children at no cost. In addition, they would like to use the new facilities for programs to keep young people away from gang violence and to help prevent teen pregnancy. As part of their outreach with the City of Waxhaw, God’s Temple of Zion is planning Gospel Singing in the Park for later this year.

Personally, Pastor Thompson is interested in entrepreneurship. Following in his parents’ footsteps, he would like to own and operate his own business. He’s interested in real estate that he can pass on to his own children. Pastor Thompson says the Bible says to leave an inheritance to the next generation, so he named his company Thompson Generation, Inc. He currently works full time in construction and is pastor of God’s Temple of Zion, while his wife Stephanie is an administrator with Union County Public Schools. His personal goals go hand-in-hand with that of the ministry: to improve harmony among everyone.
If you’d like to join the Thompsons for services, Sunday school begins at 9:30 A.M. and is followed by the morning service at 10:30 A.M. On the first and second Wednesdays of the month, Bible Study is held. The third Wednesday is reserved for the Relationship Ministry and the 4th Wednesday for Leadership Training.
