INDIAN TRAIL– Preparations are underway for local nonprofit Common Heart’s 2nd annual Hunger Walk fundraiser set for Sunday, March 3 at Crooked Creek Park in Indian Trail.
The Common Heart Hunger Walk is a hunger awareness event and a traditional walk-a-thon style fundraiser encouraging participants to create or join a team of fellow walkers and collect cash, checks and online donations from family & friends prior to the event. The Walk is a 3-mile course from 2-4 p.m., but 1.5 and half-mile options are available. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams as well as the chance to earn 20% of their money raised back for another charitable purchase, such as local youth group mission trips, or other cause or charity. Individuals who raise at least $250 will also receive prizes.
Get all the details and register online at CommonHeartHungerWalk.org. The $25 registration donation includes a Walk T-shirt. A kick off pizza party will be held Sunday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. at Indian Trail United Methodist Church (Fellowship Hall) for anyone interested in participating. Questions? About Common Heart Common Heart is a grassroots movement of friends serving the needs of our neighbors motivated by God’s love. Serving our community since 2006, Common Heart’s programs are designed to engage community volunteer action in 3 areas: food pantries, thrift stores, and economic empowerment.
The 501(c)3 nonprofit serves families and individuals in need who live in Union County and the surrounding area through three weekly food pantries and three mobile food pantries currently serving about 800 families each month. Common Things Boutique & Thrift Shop, 321 Indian Trail Road North, sells new and gently-used items at bargain prices and is open to the public with proceeds from the shop helping to feed hungry families. Our Economic Empowerment programs provide focus groups to help those in poverty move into stability as well as community workshops to better understand local poverty. Donations and volunteers are always welcome and appreciated. Find more information online at www.CommonHeart.org.
