Waxhaw, NC – The Town of Waxhaw was officially designated as a Certified Local Government by the National Park Service on Jan. 26, 2023. This designation rewards Waxhaw’s commitment to preserving the unique charm and history of the town.
As one of the oldest towns in Union County, Waxhaw has several blocks of historic residential homes and four historic landmarks including the notable Waxhaw Overhead Bridge, and the Waxhaw Water Tank which was constructed in 1941.

Details of this certification can now be found on the National Park Service website where the NPS will receive and report on updates about preservation achievements in the Waxhaw community including local historic districts and landmarks, inventory of historic properties, local design reviews and more.
