Cuthbertson High will look to take the next step this baseball season.
Cuthbertson has finished second to Marvin Ridge in the Southern Carolina Conference standings the last two seasons and the Cavaliers have watched as Marvin Ridge claimed the last two Class 3A State Championships.
But the Cavaliers hope it will be their turn in 2017.
The Cavaliers have 15 seniors on the 20-man roster, including key returnees on the mound and in the field.
“We have a lot of senior leadership, and I think we have the talent to compete on a high level,” said Cuthbertson coach Travis Little. “This conference is so good, this region is so good. I think it is the best baseball in the state. In our conference and region, we beat each other up. Just like the SEC does in baseball.
“We have a lot of experience and the guys are working very hard,” Little continued. “We expect to compete for a state championship.”
The pitching staff will be anchored by Appalachian State signee Cameron Roberts and Winthrop signee Macklin Ohs.

Roberts, who has three years experience on the mound entering the season, was 9-1 with a 0.51 ERA a year ago. The senior recorded 104 strikeouts as a junior, 30 as a junior and 12 as a freshman. Ohs was 8-2 on the mound with a 0.96 ERA and 82 strikeouts last season. Ohs batted over .370 last season.
“We are known as a pitching school,” Little said. “We return two D-1 guys on the mound and we are looking for a third guy.”

Infielders Sam Mennitt and Callen Nuncio bring experience to the infield. Nuncio, who batted .345 last season, has signed with Virginia Military Institute while Mennitt has inked with Charlotte. Catcher TJ Dellacroce signed with Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
“We start seven seniors in the field, and we have a lot of leadership there,” Little said.
