Marvin Ridge remained perfect in Southern Carolina Conference golf matches Tuesday but the Mavericks had little room for error at the Stonebridge Golf Club April 4.
Will Frye fired an even-par 36 and teammates Joe O’Callaghan and Zach Pardoll were at 2-over 38 as Marvin Ridge edged Cuthbertson High 149-150. Zack Swanson, who leads the individual standings with a 34.8 nine-hole stroke average, carded a 40 for the Mavericks.
Marvin Ridge is 5-0 in SCC matches with just one regular season match left. That perfect record will allow the Mavericks to advance to the regional golf tournament. The final SCC regular season match will be held Tuesday, April 18 at the Monroe Country Club. The conference tournament, which will be 18 holes, will be held April 24 at the Monroe Country Club.
Cuthbertson’s Ray Dawood won top individual honors with a 1-under 35 while teammate Dakota Hearne was at 1-over 37. Wes Helms fired a 38 for the Cavaliers while Ryan O’Neil and Ryan Royse both carded 40s..
Cuthbertson has finished second in all five SCC matches. Weddington came in third at Stonebridge on April 4 behind an even-par 36 by Ben Lasseter. Ethan Schwartz carded a 2-over 38 for the Warriors while Bradley Link and Tyler Moorehead carded 41 and 48, respectively.

Nielsen was a sports writer for what is now the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for nearly 32 years before moving to North Carolina in February 2016. At the Democrat-Gazette, Nielsen's primary responsibility was beat coverage for Rogers High School. Rogers is a Class 7A school located in Northwest Arkansas.
