Zack Swanson was on fire at the Firethorne Country Club in Marvin March 28.

Swanson fired a sizzling 4-under 32 to help lead the Marvin Ridge boys golf team to the school’s fourth-straight Southern Carolina Conference golf match victory. Marvin Ridge is 4-0 in nine-hole SCC matches this season with two matches left in the regular season.

Marvin Ridge finished with a 144 while Cuthbertson was 11 strokes behind in second place with a 155. Cuthbertson has finished in second in all four SCC matches so far.

Swanson leads all SCC golfers with a 2-under 34 stroke average in the four matches.

“Swanson is really, really coming into it,” said Marvin Ridge golf coach Al Webster. “Four-under, that was a personal record for him and that is really great.”

Will Frye and Zach Pardoll both were at 1-over 37 for Marvin Ridge while Tyler Haines was at 2-over 38. Joe O’Callaghan finished with a 43. Haines and Pardoll are tied for third in the individual standings with 37.0 nine-hole stroke averages. Frye stands just behind in fourth place with a 37.3 stroke average.

By virtue of winning the first four SCC matches, Marvin Ridge is all but assured of advancing to the Regional Golf Tournament.

“We are on a real nice roll right now,” Webster said.

Ryan O’Neil led Cuthbertson with a even par 36 while teammate Dakota Hearne was a stroke back at 1-over 37. Ray Dawood was good for a 40 while Wes Helms and Ryan Royse carded a 42 and 46, respectively. Dawood is second among all SCC golfers with a 36.3 stroke average in the four matches.

Weddington finished in third place with a 161. Ethan Schwartz fired an even par 36 for Weddington while Ben Lasseter carded a 40. Cody Hammer was next with a 42 while Tyler Moorehead and Bradley Linked carded a 43 and 47, respectively.

The SCC held a match April 4 at Stonebridge Golf Club and the final regular season match will be April 18 at the Monroe Country Club. The SCC tournament will be held Monday, April 24 at 10 a.m. at the Monroe Country Club and that is an 18-hole event.

The Regional Tournament will be held at the The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis.
