NCHSAA Varsity Women’s Soccer Season Wrap-up

Each of our Tri-W area teams earned the chance this year to play for a shot at the NCHSAA 3A women’s soccer state title.  The Marvin Ridge Mavericks entered the tournament with the number one seed but were upset in the quarterfinals by the fifth seed Northern Guilford Nighthawks.

Marvin Ridge



The Mavericks end their season with an overall record of 21-4 and the state rank of nine.  The mavericks defeated Central Cabarrus, Asheville and South Iredell With scores of 7-0, 2-1 and 5-0 respectively.  The Mavericks were bested by Northern Guilford 1-0 in the quarterfinals.

Cuthbertson

The Cuthbertson Cavaliers, with the 18th seed, made an impressive playoff run as well.  Victories over Crest, Cox Mill and Charlotte Catholic brought the Cavaliers to the quarterfinals where they were eliminated by the T.C. Roberson Rams by a score of 1-0.  The Cavaliers end their season with a record of 14-7 and a state rank of 26.

Sun Valley

The number 19 seed Sun Valley Spartans end their season 13-8 with one tie.  They were eliminated in round one by the 14 seed Mount Tabor Spartans.

Weddington

The Warriors, who end their season 8-8 with three ties, were eliminated in round one as well by the Watauga Pioneers by a score of 1-0.

Parkwood

The Parkwood Rebels found themselves eliminated in round one by the Northern Guilford Nighthawks.  They end their season with a record of 6-14 under head coach Nelson Garner.

The final game of the 2019 NCHSAA state tournament was played by East Chapel Hill and T.C. Roberson on May 25.  The East Chapel Hill Wildcats earned the state title by a score of 2-0.
