Sam Howell has been selected by the Tri-W-News as the athlete of the week for the second straight week in the young high school football season. There are a lot of good athletes in our area. However, we cannot ignore the stats and his on the field performance on the gridiron. This past Friday night in a rout against Anson High School, the senior quarterback had an outstanding ball game. In the air he accounted for 237 yards on 14-22 completions and 4 touchdowns in the contest. Howell also had a quarterback rating of 101.7 and averaged 16.9 yards per reception. He connected on 46 and 36 yard touchdown receptions. He was very impressive on a 30 yard TD on a post and rope route while delivering the ball perfectly.
In the rushing game Howell rumbled for 159 yards on 13 carries for an average of 12.2 yards per carry along with adding another touchdown. Howell had 5 touchdowns in the game and accumulated 396 yards of total offense alone. Last season he obtained 5000 all-purpose yards with 3400 through the air and 1600 on the ground. He also racked up 60 total touchdowns with 34 in the passing game. He appears to be on track for a tremendous senior season.
