
Conference basketball was intense this week, and teams are working to sharpen their records before going on break until the new year. Weddington football finally gets to retire for the season, and wrestling tournaments have been going strong. Here is a look at how the Tri-W sports community is wrapping up 2019.
Cuthbertson
Both the girl’s and boy’s varsity basketball teams at Cuthbertson won at home on Wednesday against Central High. The Cavaliers won 68-27 in the boy’s game. The girl’s game was a landslide too, ending at 64-24. The girl’s team followed with another win on Friday, defeating Charlotte Catholic by a score of 57-19. Cuthbertson faces Marvin Ridge on December 17, and Piedmont on December 20.
Sun Valley
The Spartans finished in second place at Hopewell High School’s Clash of the Titans wrestling tournament this week with a team record of 3-1. Three Sun Valley wrestlers, Andrew Macchiavello, Charles Smith and Jarred Hough, were undefeated at the tournament. Sun Valley boy’s basketball won over Parkwood by a score of 74-49. They will play Weddington at home on December 17.

Marvin Ridge
Girl’s varsity basketball at Marvin Ridge won two games this week against conference opponents. They won 52-23 against Monroe, and won in a close game against Piedmont by a score of 54-52. The boy’s team won 59-54 over Monroe. The Mavericks will play Cuthbertson at home on December 17 for a conference matchup.

Parkwood
Parkwood wrestling earned two team wins this week against Union Academy and Chesterfield. They will wrestle at Trinity and Piedmont this week. Girl’s varsity basketball at Parkwood is 7-2 after winning each of their games this week. They beat the undefeated Weddington Warriors 59-58, and followed up with a win over Forest Hills 42-36. The Rebels will play Charlotte Catholic in conference matchups this week.

WeddingtonÂ
The Warriors have earned the title of NCHSAA 3AA football champions for the second year in a row. The state title game against Lee County ended with a score of 34-14. The boy’s basketball team at Weddington earned two wins this week. They defeated Parkwood 63-14, and followed up with a win over Monroe 49-33. The girl’s basketball team won over Monroe 62-32. They will play at Sun Valley this week.
