
Tri-W area schools are back home for conference play after traveling across the state from tournament to tournament throughout the winter break. Teams will put in a few more games before taking a break for final exams until late January. Here is what Tri-W schools have been up to, and the games ahead.

Parkwood
The wrestling team at Parkwood earned several team wins this week, leading up to an overall win at the South Stanly Bull Pen Duals Tournament. The Rebels earned wins over Trinity, South Stanly, West Stanly, Union Academy and Jay M. Robinson on their way to first place. Parkwood basketball will return to conference play this week against the Monroe Redhawks.

Weddington
The men’s basketball team at Weddington is 9-5 on the year. They are undefeated in conference play, at 4-0. The Warriors suffered an 83-72 loss against Freedom High School following a 78-37 win over Ashbrook earlier in the week. Conference basketball resumes on Tuesday for the Warriors against Marvin Ridge. The Warriors will host an indoor track meet against Cuthbertson on Wednesday
Marvin Ridge
After winning two non-conference games over South Point, and Saint James, the men’s basketball team at Marvin Ridge is 4-9 as they resume conference play against Weddington this week. With two home conference games this week, the Mavericks hope to improve their 1-3 conference record. They will host Weddington on Tuesday, and Charlotte Catholic on Friday. Marvin Ridge wrestling will travel to Rocky River High School for the King of Kings Tournament this weekend.
Cuthbertson
Women’s basketball at Cuthbertson is 13-1 and leads the SCC 3A conference with a 4-0 conference record. The Cavaliers earned a big win this week 76-43 over the Comenius Knights, outscoring the Knights 31-9 in the first quarter. The Cavaliers will return to conference basketball against Monroe on Tuesday. Cuthbertson Wrestling will host a tri-meet against Charlotte Catholic, and Marvin Ridge on Thursday. The Cavaliers will travel to Rocky River High School for the King of Kings Tournament the following day.
Sun Valley
Sun Valley men’s basketball is 9-6 on the year after winning three games, including the championship, at the Laurie Ann Cruse Christmas Classic. The Spartans will play Charlotte Catholic on Tuesday, and Piedmont on Friday to resume conference play. Sun Valley wrestling will travel to Parkwood on Thursday for a dual meet. The Spartans will wrestle at Piedmont on Saturday in the Bob Mauldin Classic.
