With the spring season ramping up, Tri-W schools have had just a look at the intense competition to come. Teams are working to bolster their records, with an eye on conference play and a chance at the playoffs. Here is a look at spring sports in the Tri-W area.

Parkwood



Men’s varsity lacrosse is undefeated at Parkwood, beginning their season with a 3-0 record. The Rebels have won by decisive margins in each of their first three games, defeating Catawba Ridge 11-7, Queen’s Grant 16-4 and Independence 11-8. They will play their first conference game on Wednesday, March 11, at Weddington.

Cuthbertson

Cuthbertson’s varsity baseball squad earned a massive win in their first game of the season. The Cavaliers won 16-3 on Wednesday against the Cox Mill Chargers, suffering only one error on the game, and batting .400 as a team. Cuthbertson will face Weddington this week in a three-game conference series, beginning on Tuesday, March 10.

Marvin Ridge

Men’s Varsity Tennis is undefeated at Marvin Ridge after  9-0 wins over Monroe and Piedmont. The Mavericks are continuing on their success from last year, when they finished the season with an 18-4 overall record, going 13-1 in conference play. Marvin Ridge will continue conference play this week against Parkwood, Sun Valley, Weddington, and Cuthbertson.

Sun Valley 

Women’s soccer at Sun Valley is 2-0-1 after winning in two nail biter victories against non-conference opponents. The Spartans won 1-0 against Ardrey Kell on Wednesday. They followed up with another 1-0 victory over Covenant Day on Thursday. Sun Valley will play Jay M. Robinson and Catawba Ridge this week, as they prepare for conference play beginning in late March.

Weddington

Last year’s lacrosse state champions are back in winning form, as they begin their season with two big wins and an undefeated record. The Warriors opened their season with a 22-9 win over the Dorman Cavaliers and followed up on Friday with a 7-4 win over the Page Pirates. Weddington will begin conference play against Parkwood on Wednesday, March 11.
