This Week’s Tri-W Sports Highlights

The spring sports season has come to a halt amid growing health concerns. With schools closing across the state, teams scrambled to get in a few games before contests were canceled. Here is a look at what Tri-W teams were up to leading up to the NCHSAA suspension of athletics.

Weddington



The women’s varsity lacrosse team opened their week with a 13-7 win over the Charlotte Latin Hawks. The Warriors are undefeated at 3-0 after Wednesday’s victory. Men’s lacrosse is 3-1 at Weddington, earning a 22-1 victory over the previously undefeated Parkwood Rebels.

Sun Valley

Spartan baseball has opened its season with a 4-0 record. The Spartans started strong with a 12-1 victory over Butler Bulldogs in their season opener. They followed with a three-win series against the Piedmont Panthers, earning their wins by margins of 7-5, 9-4 and 7-3.

Parkwood

The Parkwood women’s lacrosse team won 13-6 against Porter Ridge on Wednesday, moving to 1-1 on the year. Rebel softball is undefeated at 2-0 after their 6-4 win over Buford. Women’s soccer is 1-0, after a 3-1 win over the Butler Bulldogs.

Cuthbertson 

Cuthbertson’s baseball team has started the year with an undefeated record of 3-0. The Cavaliers began the season with a 16-3 win over Cox Mill. They followed with a 3-0 win, and a 2-0 win, over Weddington. Softball has advanced to 3-2 on the year, with a 5-3 victory over Weddington, and a 7-3 win over Anson the following day. Women’s soccer earned a 1-0 win over the South Meck Sabres, improving their record to 1-2.

Marvin Ridge 

The baseball team at Marvin Ridge has moved to 2-2 on the year, after earning decisive victories in their last two games. The Mavericks won 11-0 against Charlotte Catholic on Tuesday, and defeated the Cougars again on Wednesday, by a score of 6-2. Marvin Ridge softball has improved to 2-1 on the year, after a 28-1 victory over Charlotte Catholic.
