Cross Country

Gage Austin Cuthbertson Middle School cross country runner finished in 28th place in the 13-14 boys’ age division at the USATF National Junior Olympics XC Championships on Dec. 9 in Tallahassee, Fla. He finished in a time of 13:13.4.



Charlotte Bell Cuthbertson Middle School cross country runner finished in 37th place in the 11-12 girls’ age division at the USATF National Junior Olympics XC Championships on Dec. 9 in Tallahassee, Fla. She finished in a time of 11:52.

Marissa Bosland Cuthbertson Middle School cross country runner finished in 22nd place in the girls’ 11-12 age division at the USATF National Junior Olympics XC Championships Dec. 9 in Tallahassee, Fla. She finished in a time of 11:33.3

Nate Jaster Weddington Middle School cross country runner finished in 15th place in the 13-14 boys’ age division at the USATF National Junior Olympics XC Championships on Dec. 9 in Tallahassee, Fla. He finished in a time of 13:06.

Soccer

Sam Botzenhart Parkwood High junior forward has been named to the Southern Carolina Conference All-Conference Soccer Team. He had nine goals and eight assists last season.

Riley Curtis Cuthbertson High senior forward has been named to the Southern Carolina Conference All-Conference Soccer Team. He had 11 goals and six assists last season.

Trae Flynn Cuthbertson High senior midfielder has been named to the Southern Carolina Conference All-Conference Soccer Team. He had two goals and nine assists last season.

Yeraldo Hernandez Parkwood High senior defender has been named to the Southern Carolina Conference All-Conference Soccer Team. He had seven goals and six assists last season.

Dennis Livingston Weddington High senior defender has been named to the Southern Carolina Conference All-Conference Soccer Team.

Luke Moore Weddington High senior defender has been named to the Southern Carolina Conference All-Conference Soccer Team. He had two goals and three assists last season.

Jacob Morris Sun Valley High senior forward has been named to the Southern Carolina Conference All-Conference Soccer Team. He had 16 goals and three assists last season.

Brock Peeler Weddington High senior forward has been named to the Southern Carolina Conference All-Conference Soccer Team. He had 16 goals and seven assists last season.

Connor Rolph Sun Valley High senior defender has been named to the Southern Carolina Conference All-Conference Soccer Team. He had four goals and nine assists last season.

Paul Nielsen
Nielsen was a sports writer for what is now the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for nearly 32 years before moving to North Carolina in February 2016. At the Democrat-Gazette, Nielsen's primary responsibility was beat coverage for Rogers High School. Rogers is a Class 7A school located in Northwest Arkansas.
Nielsen, a University of Arkansas graduate, covered the Northwest Arkansas Naturals Minor League Baseball team from 2008-2015. The Naturals are the Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
Nielsen has experience covering University of Arkansas athletics, including NCAA Tournament basketball games and several football bowl games. He also covered amateur and professional golf tournaments in Northwest Arkansas.
