Sarah Bechtel Weddington High girls track athlete finished in 11th place in the 3200-meter run in a time of 11:13.33 at the Dash Doobie in Raleigh on Nov. 18.



Myles Carnohan Marvin Ridge High boys track athlete finished in second place in the 500-meter dash in 1:08.99 at a track meet in Raleigh on Nov. 18.

Sarah Cuddy Marvin Ridge High girls track athlete finished in third place in the 1600-meter run in 5:44.94 at a track meet in Raleigh on Nov. 18.

Sarah LaTour Cuthbertson High girls track athlete finished in 10th place in the 3200-meter run in a time of 11:12.62 at the Dash Doobie in Raleigh on Nov. 18.

Tyler Stanton Marvin Ridge High boys track athlete finished in fifth place in the 1600-meter run in a time of 5:23.69 at a track meet in Raleigh on Nov. 18.

Football

Sam Howell Sun Valley High quarterback was 15-of-25 passing for 180 yards and one touchdown in the Spartans 27-20 win against Mt. Tabor in the Class 3AA quarterfinals last week. Howell also rushed 21 times for 110 yards and three touchdowns.

Elijah Last Sun Valley High defensive player had 13 tackles in the Spartans win over Mt. Tabor in the Class 3AA quarterfinals.

Anthony Marple Sun Valley High receiver had nine catches for 124 yards and one touchdown in the Spartans win over Mt. Tabor in the Class 3AA quarterfinals.

Don McLendon Sun Valley High running back rushed 13 times for 91 yards in the Spartans win over Mt. Tabor in the Class 3AA quarterfinals.

Basketball

Erin Addison Weddington High girls basketball player had 21 points and seven rebounds in a recent 72-38 victory over East Meck.

Lillian Anderson Cuthbertson High girls basketball player scored 16 points and had nine rebounds and seven steals in a 55-16 win over Porter Ridge Nov. 27.

Noble Tsumas Marvin Ridge High girls basketball player had 16 points and seven rebounds in the Mavericks’ 53-47 win against Lancaster (S.C) on Nov. 21.

Ava Fox Marvin Ridge girls’ basketball player had 17 points in the Mavericks’ 51-37 loss to Nation Ford on Nov. 22.

Paul Nielsen
Nielsen was a sports writer for what is now the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for nearly 32 years before moving to North Carolina in February 2016. At the Democrat-Gazette, Nielsen's primary responsibility was beat coverage for Rogers High School. Rogers is a Class 7A school located in Northwest Arkansas.
Nielsen, a University of Arkansas graduate, covered the Northwest Arkansas Naturals Minor League Baseball team from 2008-2015. The Naturals are the Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
Nielsen has experience covering University of Arkansas athletics, including NCAA Tournament basketball games and several football bowl games. He also covered amateur and professional golf tournaments in Northwest Arkansas.
