Eli Ackerman Parkwood quarterback was 8-of-14 passing for 103 yards and two touchdowns in win against Forest Hills.



J.J. Benton Parkwood running back had 111 yards rushing and one touchdown and the senior also returned a kickoff 80 yards for another touchdown in win against Forest Hills.

Sean Brown Marvin Ridge receiver caught six passes for 64 yards and one touchdown as the Mavericks defeated A.L. Brown 35-14.

Trevor Grant Cuthbertson receiver had five catches for 111 yards and one touchdown in the Cavaliers loss to Jay M. Robinson.

Sam Howell Sun Valley quarterback was 20-of-34 passing for 310 yards and four touchdowns in the Spartans 59-22 win against Anson County.

Alejandro Lopez Marvin Ridge kicker connected on all five of his extra point attempts and he averaged 37 yards on four punts in win against A.L. Brown.

Bryce McLain Marvin Ridge quarterback was 16-of-21 passing for 198 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed eight times for 63 yards in the Mavericks win against A.L. Brown.

Devin Powell Marvin Ridge receiver had nine catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns in the Mavericks’ win against A.L. Brown.

Josh Sepe Cuthbertson junior had 12 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble in the Cavaliers’ loss to Jay M. Robinson.

Jason Stricker Marvin Ridge kicker had six touchbacks in the win against A.L. Brown.

Davis Walker Cuthbertson quarterback was 13-of-20 passing for 171 yards and one touchdown in the Cavaliers’ loss to Jay M. Robinson.

Myles Wallace Cuthbertson running back rushed 27 times for 115 yards in the Cavaliers’ loss to Jay M. Robinson.

Cross Country

Sarah LaTour Cuthbertson senior won the WNC Cross Country Carnival Girls’ Championship Division in a time of 18:47.10. Cuthbertson won the girls’ team title at the event in Hendersonville.

Luke Wolaver Marvin Ridge senior won the Boys’ Open Division at the Providence Invitational in a time of 16:35.34.

Weddington High Both the Warriors’ boys and girls cross country teams won the Invitational Division at the Providence Invitational Saturday in Charlotte.

Paul Nielsen
Nielsen was a sports writer for what is now the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for nearly 32 years before moving to North Carolina in February 2016. At the Democrat-Gazette, Nielsen's primary responsibility was beat coverage for Rogers High School. Rogers is a Class 7A school located in Northwest Arkansas.
Nielsen, a University of Arkansas graduate, covered the Northwest Arkansas Naturals Minor League Baseball team from 2008-2015. The Naturals are the Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
Nielsen has experience covering University of Arkansas athletics, including NCAA Tournament basketball games and several football bowl games. He also covered amateur and professional golf tournaments in Northwest Arkansas.
