The Weddington Warriors have beaten out many tough competitors to claim their first ever Southern Carolina 3A Conference Title with a 5-1 victory over the Cuthbertson Cavaliers on Thursday night. The first two games of the series were a tightly contested 3-2 win and a 3-2 loss for the Warriors. Game three was a different story.

This is the first year in the team’s history that Marvin Ridge has not won the conference title, the success this year leaves Weddington with high hopes as they move into NCHSAA post-season playoffs with tournament seeding expected to be released on May 6.

The Warriors improved to 14-6 on the season with the win against Cuthbertson through an exceptional effort on both offense and defense. An offensive onslaught ensued in this third game of a tightly contested series behind senior Brett Wiseman’s solo homerun, a triple by junior Dusty Mercer and a 2RBI double by senior Ryan Huesing. The unforgiving defense was led by senior Cooper McKeehan who earned 11 strikeouts in his complete game performance allowing only four hits and one earned run.

The Warriors are scheduled to play Lake Norman on Monday for their first postseason appearance.
