Weddington High junior all-purpose Max Brimigion and Marvin Ridge junior kicker Jason Stricker were recently named Southern Carolina Conference co-Special Teams Players of the Year by the league’s coaches.

Stricker was 6-of-7 on field goal attempts with a long of 51 yards and he made 13-of-14 PAT attempts. Stricker had 52 touchbacks on 59 kickoffs last season for the Mavericks.

Brimigion, who played offense, defense and on special teams for the Warriors, caught 60 passes for 1,366 yards and 16 touchdowns.

“Max has done a heck of a job for us,” Weddington head football coach Tim Carson said earlier this year. “He has good athletic ability. He is a great route runner and he has good hands. He does the little things right, when to make a cut and when not to make a cut. He plays about 90-95 percent of the plays. He is in shape enough that he can do it.”

Sun Valley quarterback Sam Howell, who is rated among the best junior quarterbacks in the country, is one of three Tri-W area quarterbacks on the SCC All-Conference Team. Howell was 225-of-382 passing for 3,372 yards and 36 touchdowns. Howell also rushed 230 times for 1,594 yards and 24 more touchdowns.

Weddington quarterback Whitner Litton also had a solid season for the Warriors. Litton, who is a junior, was 195-of-334 passing for 3,117 yards and 30 touchdowns. Litton is one of six Weddington underclassmen on the SCC All-Conference Team.
