Allergies

CHARLOTTE – Allergies are due to hypersensitivity of the immune system that causes the release of damaging histamines.  This can affect the whole body, especially the skin, eyes, nasal passageways and lungs.

Wondering how to help get rid of allergies?  Millions of Americans turn to Benadryl, Claritin and other pharmaceutical products to try to find relief from their allergy symptoms.  The good news is that you might not necessarily need to take any allergy medications, since there are many natural allergy relief remedies you can try first.

Natural remedies for allergies include avoiding triggers and eating an anti-inflammatory diet.  An anti-inflammatory diet should combine a variety of foods that are rich in nutrients, provide a range of antioxidants and contain healthy fats.  Include foods in your diet such as oily fish; tuna and salmon, fruits; blueberries, blackberries and strawberries, and vegetables; kale spinach and broccoli, nuts and seeds, and fiber.

Foods to avoid are processed foods, foods with added sugar or salt, pre-made desserts, excess alcohol and unhealthy oils/fats.

Some of the most common causes of allergies/triggers include pollen, animal fur, dust, mold, insect bites, some medications or particular foods.  For help with natural allergy relief, you can research consuming raw honey, apple cider vinegar and natural supplements such as quercetin.

Other ways to help allergy relief naturally would be the use of essential oils such as frankincense and eucalyptus, a Reflexology session or a cup of medicinal tea including stinging nettle.  As a Certified Reflexologist and Aromatherapist Practitioner, I would love to educate you more on natural allergy relief. As always, be sure to check with your medical practitioner or naturopathic partner if taking current medications.
